Contemporary Dance Education in Berlin
My goal is this: always to put myself in a place in which I am best able to serve, wherever my gifts and qualities find the best soil to grow, the widest field of action. There is no other goal.Hermann Hesse
Berlin Dance Institute is an international institute of excellence in the field of contemporary dance education. The root of our ethos is the aspiration to push contemporary dance forward. All members of our international faculty are professional dance artists and lecturers. Our faculty inspires the next generation of dance artists to explore the endless possibilities of contemporary dance.
At BDI we offer a variety of programmes as well as open classes. Our dance campus is located in the heart of Berlin. Here, we provide young dance artists the opportunity to learn and train in a place that values the individuality and creativity of each student.
We offer a 3-year contemporary dance education programme on level with a European undergraduate programme. This programme encompasses both curricular and extra-curricular possibilities. This ensures that students collaborate with other art students and guest professionals. There are opportunities to engage with a variety of audiences in different environments. Our contemporary dance education programme is outward and forward-facing. As a result our students have the best possible advantage to learn about the contemporary dance profession and steer their path into future careers.
In addition to the 3-year contemporary dance education programme. Berlin Dance Institute also offers an intensive dance programme. This shorter programme is designed for young dance enthusiasts looking for an intensive professional contemporary dance education. As well as individuals who want to explore dance in order to expand and deepen their skills and knowledge.
Due to the abundance of studio space we are also able to provide open evening adult classes as well as children's classes. All dance techniques and styles at all levels for all ages are taught at BDI. In addition there are workshops and studios for rent.
We welcome everyone to become a part of our friendly, caring and open dance community.
BDI - The future of contemporary dance lies within.

My name is Ana Karina Castro Torres I’m 25 years old and I come from Colombia.
My journey as a dancer started when I was a child, I was dancing at school, for my grandma, for my parents birthday, I was lucky to have supportive parents that took me to my first dance studio, and since then brought me to everywhere I had to go to dance.
My whole life I’ve been dancing any style I had the opportunity to try, from salsa to hip hop, Afro dance, higheels, and now contemporary. I’m very passionate about different ways of movements, and I believe that even if I’m not good enough for some dance styles I still can be inspired by them.
The last almost three years taught me a lot about myself as a dancer profesional and emotionally, I had the opportunity to share this process with wonderful people and I’m happy to finish this journey being a better version of myself.

My name is Nastasja Berezin, I`m 22 years old and I come from Potsdam, Germany.
Having a movement background in rhythmic gymnastics, I started dancing at the age of 17 and fell in love immediately. After my first contemporary class I even remember calling my mother in tears because I was so ecstatic and overwhelmed with joy. :`)
When I think of the last 3 years, I`m filled with deep gratitude for all the people who`ve encouraged and confronted, laughed and cried with me -
who helped me grow as a dancer and as a human being.
So obviously, I love dancing. I love that it makes you feel, think and question and it`s such a privilege to do it every day,
and yet also so challenging.
When I dance freely, I cannot really hide anything - which can be very scary, but also very beautiful.
I think it`s this authenticity that I long for, the feeling of being deeply touched without needing to consciously understand why.

My name is Antonia Thomsen and I am from Cologne, Germany.
I started dancing when I was 5 years old. After my very first dance class, I did not want to leave the studio and stayed directly for a second class because I felt so much joy dancing! This is how my passion for dance started developing.
My last three years at Berlin Dance Institute have been an absolutely enriching experience. It was a wonderful time in which I have learned so much about dance and also about myself!
Through dance we can communicate and connect in a way that we could never with just using our words. This fascinates me the most about dancing!
I am excited about my future as a dancer and where my journey will take me!

M•e•e•t Hannah @hannah_geissler
My name is Hannah Geißler, I’m 24 years old and I come from Essen, Germany.
I started dancing when I was 8 years old because I wasn’t allowed to go horse riding and I’m truly thankful for my parents decision, because since then dance have been always present in my life.
Sometimes more sometimes less, it was the one thing I always came back to.
I would describe the last 3 years as a beautiful journey of discovering my body and mind, also of figuring out who I am
and who I want to be.
My favorite thing about dancing is that there’s always something to work towards to and the infinitive possibilities of expression.
We strive for perfection and find the beauty in moments that are over in the split of a second. Moments that are not permanent and we can’t hold on to. Working for these moments gives us nothing back than the feeling of being alive.
